Regimental History

The Welsh Horse Yeomanry is adopted from the name of the regiment of The Welsh Horse which was formed in Cardiff in 1914. The regiment served with honour throughout the First World War in Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine, France and Flanders and was disbanded in 1919.
Our crest is based on the leek cap badge of the original Welsh Horse and our uniform is based on that worn by lancer regiments in the 1890s.
The green facings were adopted from the green cloth badges of the original Welsh Horse and the plumes and lance pennons are in the Welsh Tudor colours of green and white.

  1. William Richard Hughes's avatar William Richard Hughes says:

My great uncles Robert Williams and John Williams both joined the Welsh Horse in 1914. I believe John was killed in France whilst serving with the RWF, he looked over the parapet twice in the same spot. His brother “Uncle Bob” I remember very fondly with his tales of life in the trenches. Wish I could remember those stories now.
